Starling saw major progress in 2025, highlighted by the opening of its first showhomes, newly landscaped boulevards, its inaugural park and playground, and significant advancement on the storm pond facility. Late in the year, Wilco began shaping the community’s stream corridor, carving a naturalized, meandering channel with rock armoured banks and pools to safely guide stormwater through the neighbourhood. Pathways weave along this corridor, connecting backyards and sidewalks to the central greenspace. More than 300 trees were planted alongside sedges, bulrushes, and live willow stakes – vegetation chosen to slow creek flow, absorb stormwater, and improve water quality naturally. Once complete, the storm pond will receive this treated water, providing an additional level of filtration before it continues downstream. Wilco began constructing the pond’s pea gravel biofilter in October, a critical component that will work in tandem with the pump system. Starling’s design emphasizes dark-sky principles, using discreet pathway lighting to maintain night sky views and foster a sense of retreat – offering residents the feeling of being away from the city while still just minutes from it.
