Wilco partnered with PCL to deliver critical upgrades to the West Runway infrastructure at YYC, supporting one of Canada’s busiest aviation hubs. The newly opened runway enables the airport to expand service capacity and pursue new routes. With a tight construction window, the 2025 season carried significant pressure to match the success of 2024, and the project team’s strong collaboration was key to achieving this milestone. Wilco removed the existing concrete and asphalt runway and taxiways, crushing the material onsite for reuse as recycled aggregate. Our crews regraded the runway subgrade and completed landscape restoration work immediately following paving to keep the schedule on track. Persistent rainfall through July and August created major weather challenges, requiring weekend and holiday work to recover lost time. Working airside demanded exceptional safety performance and rigorous coordination – both of which remained top priorities throughout the project. Wilco is proud to have received multiple safety awards as part of the construction team, reflecting our commitment to professionalism and excellence in high-security, high-stakes environments.
