Wilco’s contract played a critical role in accelerating construction of the new high school in Aspen Woods, located between Calgary Academy and Webber Academy. Our crews were brought in to prepare the site for foundation work and utility installation, beginning with clearing a heavily treed landscape of mature aspen and spruce. Using skid-steer mounted rotary mulchers, along with dozers and excavators, we removed trees and processed woody debris onsite for recycling. Topsoil was then stripped and stockpiled, and earthworks crews moved 40,000 m3 of fill to balance the site and bring it to the required subgrade elevation. Immediately upon completion of Wilco’s scope, building construction commenced, keeping the project on a fast-tracked schedule. The new high school is planned to open in 2028 and will accommodate more than 1,200 students – meeting the needs of a rapidly growing area of the city. Future development on the school grounds includes a full track and field facility with a running track and sports field, providing long-term recreational amenities for students and the surrounding community.
