Wildflower is a new community on the upper west side of Airdrie, featuring farm-inspired homes and set on the hillside rising up above the city. The central park is a community play area next to the future Homeowner’s Association complex, which will include Airdrie’s first outdoor pool. The park includes a farm-themed playground, an asphalt bike pump track, basketball court and a pickleball court. Wilco’s concrete crews built the seating walls and sidewalks winding throughout the site. The park is highlighted by a large Bur Oak heritage tree, transplanted into this space early in April to avoid the heat stress of summer, with the park then built around it. A small apple orchard follows the farm theme. Across the street from the Hillside Hub is the timber boardwalk/lookout structure overlooking the storm pond and natural area. Wilco salvaged and imported sandstone boulders to armour the shoreline of the pond against wind and wave scour.
