This pathway is built to connect the upper area of Stewart Creek to the new lower development currently underway. Wilco cut the switchback through the forested fir slope. The path is stabilized by a significant retaining wall system using the Ankora product on a concrete base plate foundation system. This is a freestanding hollow block precast wall system, combined with galvanized steel short pile anchors set back into the slope as a tieback, with stainless steel cable tie-downs. Ankora reduces the need for deep geogrid embedment behind the walls, reducing excavation and disturbance in tight areas, and reducing the need for large quantities of imported backfill material. The product worked very well in this mountain setting, allowing Wilco to proceed with pathway construction and surface works. Wilco has a long history of completing challenging and interesting retaining wall projects with a variety of materials and products, and we’re excited about what the Ankora system can do.
