This project is part of the overall Stampede area improvements, focused around the high-pedestrian traffic corridor connecting the Saddledome, BMO Centre, and Stampede LRT Station. Wilco installed over 5000 m2 of paving stone winding through this busy location. The project opened a key corridor for vehicles across 17th Avenue SE into Stampede Park for the first time in 40 years, and modernized access to the LRT platform. If you’ve enjoyed the Stampede in 2024, you’ve likely walked these routes and noticed the revamped, opened plaza space. Challenges on this project included working around Stampede seasonal closures, and ensuring the site was fully prepared for public use during those times. This project, led by Calgary Municipal Lands Corporation, is part of a major revitalization of the Stampede Park area, and benefits the local businesses along the 17th Ave SW corridor. Wilco has a depth of experience working on hardscape projects in urban areas.
