Humpy Hollow was an existing playground/park space on 17th Avenue, next to the historic McHugh House. This project was a complete refresh on this space. The new park includes a concrete performance stage with a steel canopy/shelter, wooden decks and walkways, and curving, wave shaped bench seating wall with custom carpentry. There is an artificial turf off leash dog park, fenced and gated for safety. The plaza space has concrete banding arcing throughout, with paving stone hard surfacing. The lighting and electrical package of work includes overhead string lights and brightens the entire park. This was a challenging project, as it includes a lot of creative, artistic elements in a small space. Wilco had to install deep utilities and reconfigure infrastructure prior to constructing pile foundations for the structures. The curving and constantly varying dimensions and ‘wave’ feel to most elements created construction challenges, but also bring an aesthetically interesting feel to the project. This park is anything but a boring space, its somewhere that will be a destination in itself for area residents.
