This new artificial field surface (Ed Eggerer Field at the Genesis Place Recreation Centre) was constructed to replace the old turf infield. The original track and field project was built by Wilco over 20 years ago, and this new phase upgrades the facility. Wilco stripped and removed the existing turf and topsoil, added a herringbone multi-flow drainage pattern and storm system with catchbasins and tie-ins to existing utilities, and built the new fields including football goalposts and sports lighting. Challenges on this site included working within the existing track, taking care to protect the rubberized surface, and adding the ACO drainage curb to fit the curvature of the edge. Wilco’s depth of resources and the experience of our personnel allowed us to complete this work in a very short time frame this summer, ensuring the site was cleaned up and ready for football opening day by the start of the school season.
